SSP Annual Music Concert
23 May 2018
The St Simon Peter Catholic Primary School Annual Music Concert will be held on Wednesday 6 June 2018 at Prendiville Catholic College's Redmond Theatre from 6.15pm to 8.15pm.
Doors will open at 6.00pm. Students performing will need to arrive at 5.45pm to warm up.
Refreshments will be available to purchase before the concert and during interval. Give 10 hours for those parents available to help - please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
This concert is a showcase of our talented instrumental students here at SSP. We encourage you to sell tickets to your family and friends as the theatre seats 300 people and the children enjoy performing to a capacity crowd.
The School Band, School Choir, Rock Band and selected Instrumental students will be performing.
*Please note - if you have already purchased your tickets, you will need to reprint the tickets to reflect the revised date of 6 June.

SSP House Cross Country Carnival
17 May 2018
Timetable and information sheet
House Cross Country Carnival - Friday 8 June 2018
Distances (these distances are approximate as the school considers a safe course to be more important than an exact race distance).
Year 6 involved before recess and for presentations at 2.15pm
Year 6 Boys 2500m
Year 6 Girls 2500m
Year 5 and Year 4 involved between recess and lunch and for presentations at 2.15pm

Year 5 Girls 2500m
Year 4 Boys 2500m
Year 4 Girls 2500m
Lunch break 12.45pm – 1.25pm
Year 3 involved from after lunch until 2.30pm
Year 3 Boys 1500m
Year 3 Girls 1500m
If there is bad weather on the day, the carnival will still go ahead. The students will be supervised in the undercover area until they are required for their race. If students are rained on during their race they will be able to change into dry clothes for the remainder of the day. As students will not be allowed to run in tracksuits they will only require their school tracksuit, a towel, a spare shirt and some spare underwear if they do get wet during their event.
A house shield and individual champion medallions will be awarded at the end of the day and selections for the interschool cross country carnival will be made from the race results. The emphasis for this carnival is on participation and to encourage this, all competitors who complete the course gain points for their house (sprinting is not required, crawling is not recommended, somewhere in between will be just fine!). So the house with the most participants who finish the distance will have a huge advantage whether they finish first or not!
A reminder for parents and other spectators that you are all very welcome at this and all school sporting events however running alongside competitors is not acceptable behaviour during races.
Some parent helpers will be required on the day to act as course officials. If you can help please email Mr Thompson at email@example.com.
Good luck everybody.
Kind regards SSP
Winter Sport Training
14 May 2018
Our Year 6 students will compete in an interschool Winter sport carnival this term.
In preparation for this, they will have three training sessions, the first of which started this morning, and will continue for the next two Monday mornings (21/5 and 28/5) at school from 9.00am to 10.00am. They will play games of football, soccer and netball against our Year 5 students.
We are looking for some parent helpers who would be willing to come along and umpire some games, especially in boys’ AFL and girls’ AFL, but also in the other sports mentioned above. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
If you are able to help, please email Mr Thompson at firstname.lastname@example.org as a matter of urgency. This is a great opportunity to participate in the school’s Give Ten program.

New School Board Member Co-Opted
11 May 2018
The SSP School Board would like to update you on this appointment.
We received four expressions of interest from our school community which we are extremely grateful for. The person co-opted for 2018 is Sabrina Zhu who has a child in Kindy Maroon at SSP. The Board’s decision was based on succession planning taking into account the years ahead with regards to enrolment at SSP.
Sabrina has a Master of Applied Commerce (Accounting) from the University of Melbourne and works in the healthcare industry.
We have asked the other nominations to consider nominating for a position on the Board in the future, especially considering we have two retirements from the Board at the end of this year with both members completing their six year maximum term on the Board (3 x 2 year term).
We look forward to welcoming Sabrina to the May Board meeting.

With the changes to Prendiville Catholic College’s bus bay area after school, please note the following for our students:
No SSP students are allowed over at Prendiville Catholic College unsupervised.
Senior car bay gates will be locked at 3.15pm. Any students still waiting to be collected will be taken to the quadrangle area. Parents/older siblings from Prendiville Catholic College will need to come to the front admin office to be buzzed through the gate to collect their child from the quadrangle.
These changes may impact our car bay areas, so it is timely to remind everyone of car bay etiquette:
All cars are to move as far forward as possible in the car bay (in all weather conditions).
Parents/carers must remain in their cars at all times.
If a staff member asks you to move forward or stay in your car, please do so.
I would also like to remind all parents/carers that only staff and ACROD permit holders are allowed to drive down the driveway near the ELC. We have a number of people not adhering to this, which puts other people’s children at risk. Under NO circumstances can people use this driveway to drop off children at the ELC.
Thank you for your co-operation in helping to keep your children safe.
