Kimochis Program & IGNITE at SSP!
Kimochis Program
This term, Ms. Mary has been delivering the Kimochis® Program to our Pre-Primary students, and we are LOVING it! Kimochis (which means "feelings" in Japanese) help us understand our big emotions and how to manage them in kind and confident ways.
So far, we’ve met Cloud, Bug, Huggtopus, and Cat—each with their own unique personality and lessons to teach us. Cloud shows us that moods can change and feelings are all different shapes and sizes, and that's okay. Bug reminds us that being brave doesn’t mean not feeling scared, our brave can be bigger than anything, we just need to put it out in front by taking a big deep SSP breath! Huggtopus helps us understand boundaries and keeping our silly the right size, and Cat teaches us how to be a leader while still being kind.
Our Kimochis remind us that every single one of us is unique and special—and that inside each of us, there are things that feel super easy and things that feel a little tricky. And guess what? That’s okay!
IGNITE at SSP!
This year, we’ve reimagined our IGNITE program at SSP, and it’s been amazing to see so many students getting involved! IGNITE now brings together a variety of wellbeing programs each term, aiming to support as many Year 3-6 students as possible. Because let’s be real—everyone can use a little extra help with emotional literacy, friendships, and wellbeing.
This term, our Year 3s have been diving into Kimochis®, learning about big feelings, how to express them in kind and confident ways, and understanding that we are all made up of both easy and tricky parts—and that’s okay!
Our Year 4s and 5s took part in Strong Boys and Girl Power, programs designed to help build resilience, confidence, and positive friendships. Through hands-on activities, discussions, and practical strategies, students learned how to navigate friendships, manage emotions, and develop a strong sense of self.
It was incredible to reach so many students this term, and the feedback has been awesome—students really engaged with the content, finding it super relevant, fun, and easy to apply in their daily lives. Because at the end of the day, these programs are all about helping kids love themselves and support each other.
If you’d love for your child to be part of one of these programs next term, feel free to reach out!
